Daily Press Oped: Put American children first and bar illegals from schools
Put American children first and bar illegals from schools
If you believe that “all children” deserve an education and that we shouldn’t “punish” the children of illegal aliens because they are “innocent” then I want you to follow these instructions:
1. Put this paper down.
2. Stand in front of a mirror and repeat the following:
3. “My child doesn’t deserve the best education possible.”
Now stop reading. Maybe you can go buy your kid the newest smartphone or an ice cream cone and tell them how there is nothing you wouldn’t do to give them the best future possible – except stand up and have a backbone.
If, like me, your allegiance is to your nation, your countrymen, and our children, then it is time we stand up and take immediate action.
That is why I authored the “American Children First” initiative for the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District. It would bar illegal aliens from attending public schools and require illegal alien parents of anchor babies to pay a “non-resident” tuition to enroll their child.
We can’t put “America First” if we are putting our American children second. And that is exactly what we are doing in California when we take billions of dollars away from their education so that we can give it to the children of illegal aliens.
Californians used to enjoy a world-class K-12 education system. We have now careened past mediocrity and stand firmly entrenched in a pathetic abyss of ineptitude.
Could we possibly expect anything else when nearly 25 percent of our K-12 students (1.4 million) are English learners and we spend $15 billion a year educating the children of illegal aliens?
Nineteen percent of students in San Bernardino County are English learners. That’s 77,324 students. To give you some kind of perspective, there are only 75,156 white, non-Hispanic students. Yes, you read that right. There are more English learners in our county than white students.
Um…we pause this op-ed to allow all the morons who think repeating facts are racist to throw their temper tantrums and settle down. Just another moment – I see a snowflake almost done melting in the back there.
Okay. As I was saying.
Your child gets less when illegal aliens get more.
That is the cold hard truth. There are two ways to tackle this problem and put our American children first.
The first option is to mount a legal challenge and overturn Plyler v Doe, one of the worst decisions in Supreme Court history. The Court ruled in 1982 that states cannot bar illegal aliens from public schools unless there is a “substantial state interest.”
The second option is to pass a bill in Congress like the amendment former Congressman Elton Gallegly introduced in 1996. It would have allowed states to deny public education or charge tuition to illegal alien children and it passed the House by a vote of 257-163.
It has been 35 years since the Plyler decision and the fact pattern facing the Court then is substantially different now. Also, I believe that in addition to Neil Gorsuch, President Trump will appoint one or two more justices and dramatically swing the court to the right.
There will never be a better opportunity in our lifetime to overturn this decision. I urge patriots to contact Congressman Paul Cook and ask him to re-introduce the “Gallegly Amendment.” And if you are interested in copying our initiative in your local school district, contact American Children First and I will walk you through the process.
