The utility user tax (UUT) is a tax levied on various utility bills by more than 150 cities and counties in California. I have not researched other states to determine whether or not they also tax utilities.
The tax rate and the specific utilities that are taxed varies from one jurisdiction to the other. The most commonly taxed utilities are: landline telephones, cell phones and prepaid month-to-month wireless, cable, water and trash hauling services, as well as natural gas and electricity bills.
I have experienced another unexpected "first" in my life as an activist. Each time I think I have planned for every contingency I get surprised by some other strange twist and turn in the saga of patriotic activism.
A couple of weeks ago I had to deal with the Huntington Park city clerk refusing to accept our initiative documents -- something she was required by law to do. After we refused to leave she forced a police officer to process our paperwork and we captured it on video.Continue reading
The legacy of corruption and self-enrichment by city officials and council members in Cudahy is a lengthy and odious one.
I have been investigating the compensation and benefits packages provided to elected members of the Cudahy city council for the purposes of floating another initiative to reduce them.Continue reading
In addition to filing the various initiative documents required by law, American Children First also asked the Cudahy City Clerk to provide general information and guidelines about qualifying the initiative.
We requested information about the number of signatures needed, the deadline for submitting the signatures, along with information about the acceptable newspapers of general circulation we could use to publish our state mandated legal notice.Continue reading
Cudahy City Clerk Richard Iglesias sent American Children First the ballot title and summary prepared by Assistant City Attorney Richard Padilla via email on June 22.
Given the history of corruption and lawlessness that has taken place in the City of Cudahy for decades, we were not surprised when the city attorney's office provided us with ballot title and summary language that clearly violates the state elections code.Continue reading
As the founder of American Children First, I am committed to advancing our organizational objectives and defeating our enemies with innovative ideas. However, I am also committed to "making activism fun again."
Our opposition is reeling in the aftermath of the Trump victory. Long gone are the days of cocky arrogance that poured out from the ranks of the pro-illegal alien coalition of activists. Now they are throwing temper tantrums and whining like little children. They are legitimately stressed out and unnerved by the developments unfolding before their very eyes. They are lashing out with violence.Continue reading
American Children First launched "Operation Defund Sanctuary Cities" on Tuesday when it filed an initiative to repeal the utility user tax (UUTs) in the City of Cudahy, CA.
Cudahy declared itself a sanctuary city in 2015 and generates more than $1 million in revenue from this tax. This revenue accounts for more than 13 percent of their General Fund budget. UUTs are taxes paid by residents and business owners on water and trash bills, electricity and gas bills, and on landline and cell phone bills.Continue reading
Being an anti-illegal immigration activist can be a grind. You are constantly battling against an entrenched status quo in possession of structural advantages that can be extraordinarily difficult for grassroots boot-strappers to overcome.
It is a slog. And at times it can feel hopeless leaving you exhausted and ready to quit.
But then there are those glorious times where you are reminded that it is all worth it.Continue reading
