Yucaipa-Calimesa School Board Reaffirms Support for Illegal Alien Students
Well, we have some disappointing but expected news to report. A teacher in the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District who supports our initiative sent me a press release from Superintendent Cali Banks. It was apparently issued on behalf of the governing board members reaffirming their support for educating illegal aliens. Clearly they oppose our American Children First Initiative.
The announcement came via a press release issued at 2:30 PM this afternoon.
You can view the entire release below, but the pertinent section reads as follows:
“The Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District will continue to comply with state and federal law, which includes the 1982 Supreme Court decision, Plyler v. Doe. The court decision does not allow the district to ask about the immigration status of parents and requires our district to educate all children.”
It should be noted that American Children First contacted both the San Bernardino and Riverside County Registrar of Voters to ask the political party affiliation of each board member. According to those conversations, only one member of the board is a registered Republican in what is one of the most conservative school districts in all of California.
Here is the information about the board members that we were provided:
Jane Smith (Republican) - Next election: 2020
Chuck Christie (No Party Preference) - Next election: 2020
James Taylor (No Party Preference) - Next election: 2020
Sharon Bannister (Democrat) - Next election: 2018
Patricia Ingram (No Party Preference) - Next election: (2018)
The contact phone number for the school board is: 909-797-0174
We are going to have to find out exactly what is going on with these board members, where they stand on this issue, and other issues specifically. I find it troubling that there is only one declared Republican on the board in that district.
